Country Music Facts

Welcome to Country Music Facts. Country started as a mix of folk and popular music in the United States and Canada. It was originally called hillbilly music but got changed to Country when hillbilly became considered offensive by some people, like Hank Williams Sr the father of Contemporary Country.

Country Music Singers

Country Music is very popular in the United States, Canada and Australia and is also some what popular in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia and New Zealand.

Early Country, also known as old-time music was played on a Fiddle, Dulcimer, Mandolin, Guitar, and Banjo. It wasn't until the late 50s that Drums were added.

Country has many subgenres like Bluegrass, Honky Tonk, Neotraditional Country, Outlaw Country, Western Swing and Texas Country.

Boxcar Willie

The video below is a train medley performed by Boxcar Willie. Boxcar Willie has a very good voice but perhaps the thing he is best known for is his imitation of the steam engine whistle. It is so well done. You can tell that he enjoys what he is doing immensely.
